Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9-inch baking dish or an 8×8-inch square pan.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the milk, applesauce, maple syrup (or honey), vanilla extract, and egg until well combined.
  • Stir in the rolled oats, cinnamon, and salt, ensuring everything is mixed thoroughly.
  • Gently fold the chopped apples into the oatmeal mixture until they are evenly distributed.
  • Pour the oatmeal mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly to ensure even baking.

Baking

  • Bake for 35-40 minutes or until the top is golden and the oatmeal is set.
  • If adding walnuts or pecans, sprinkle them on top in the last 10 minutes of baking.
  • Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For best results, use fresh apples and check for doneness with a toothpick. Allow to cool slightly before serving to enhance flavors. Can be prepared the night before.
