Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef stew meat, cut into chunks Beef should be tender for best results.
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced Caramelized for sweetness.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Adds aroma.
  • 4 cups low-sodium beef broth Rich and comforting base.
  • 1 cup egg noodles Soft and chewy.
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce Adds umami flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce Tangy flavor enhancer.
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme Adds earthy freshness.
  • Salt and pepper to taste Essential seasonings.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil For sautéing.
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (Gruyère or Swiss) Topping for the dish.
  • Fresh parsley for garnish Optional, for decoration.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook until golden, about 15-20 minutes.
  • Once the onions are beautifully caramelized, add minced garlic and sauté for another minute until fragrant.
  • In a separate pot, brown the beef stew meat over medium-high heat, ensuring each piece gets a good sear and seasoning with salt and pepper.

Cooking

  • Combine the caramelized onions with the browned beef in a large pot. Pour in the beef broth, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for about 1 hour.
  • Cook the egg noodles according to package instructions, then drain and set aside.
  • Once the beef is fork-tender, stir in the cooked noodles and allow them to soak up the flavors for a couple of minutes.
  • Top with shredded cheese and cover briefly to allow it to melt before serving.
  • Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

Good for family dinners. Avoid rushing the onions while caramelizing and balance seasoning to taste.
