Instructions

Cooking the Beef

  • In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat until no longer pink. Drain excess fat if using lean beef, ensuring a healthier final dish.
  • Add the diced onion and sauté until soft, about 4 minutes.
  • Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  • Mix in the tomato paste and stir through the beef mixture for another minute.
  • Sprinkle flour over the mixture and stir in while gradually pouring in the beef broth.
  • Add thyme, paprika, salt, and pepper, and let the mixture simmer for 8-10 minutes until it thickens.

Making the Dumplings

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt for the dumplings.
  • Cut in softened butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Gradually stir in milk until a soft dough forms, ensuring not to over-mix.

Assembling

  • Drop spoonfuls of dumpling dough over the beef mixture, ensuring an even distribution.
  • Cover the skillet and reduce heat to low. Steam dumplings for about 15 minutes.
