Ingredients

For the Fonduta

  • 1 each baguette Fresh, crusty for easy dipping.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil Enhances flavor of the bread.
  • 1/2 cup sour cream or plain Greek yogurt Adds creaminess and tang.
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese Provides gooey texture.
  • 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese Adds sharp flavor.
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme Infuses earthy notes.
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes Adds a hint of heat.
  • 4 ounces smoked provolone cheese Offers a unique smoky flavor.
  • a dash cayenne pepper For an additional kick.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Slice the baguette into 1/4 to 1/2 inch slices. Drizzle with olive oil and bake for 5 minutes.
  • Flip the baguette slices and return them to the oven for another 3 minutes until crispy.
  • Increase the oven temperature to 400°F (200°C). Combine sour cream, mozzarella, Parmesan, thyme, red pepper flakes, and cayenne pepper in a mixing bowl.
  • Mix well until creamy, then spread into a baking dish. Top with smoked provolone cheese.

Baking

  • Bake for about 10 minutes until the cheese melts and bubbles.
  • Broil for about 1 minute until the top is slightly golden.

Serving

  • Serve fonduta immediately with toasted baguette slices for dipping.

Notes

For extra creaminess, add more sour cream or Greek yogurt. Experiment with different cheese varieties like Gruyère or Fontina. Garnish with fresh herbs after baking.
