Ingredients

Dough ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour providing a basic structure for your dough
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar contributing sweetness to the final rolls
  • 1 packet active dry yeast that will make the rolls rise beautifully
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt balancing out the sweetness and enhancing flavor
  • 1/2 cup whole milk warmed just enough to activate the yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water helping to bring the ingredients together
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted to enrich the dough
  • 1 large egg giving the rolls a tender and rich texture

Filling ingredients

  • 8 oz cream cheese softened to create a smooth and creamy filling
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar added to sweeten the cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup fresh strawberries finely chopped for a refreshing burst of flavor
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar perfect for giving the filling its silky finish
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract for that delightful aromatic sweetness

Glaze ingredients

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar providing the necessary sweetness
  • 2-3 tbsp heavy cream or milk for creating a drizzle-worthy consistency
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract enhancing the flavor profile with a sweet aroma

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, combine warm milk, water, and 1/4 cup of granulated sugar. Sprinkle yeast over the top and let it sit until frothy (5-10 minutes).
  • Add melted butter, egg, and salt to the yeast mixture. Gradually incorporate flour to form a soft dough. Knead on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  • Put dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm area for 1-1.5 hours until doubled.
  • While the dough rises, prepare the filling by beating cream cheese with granulated sugar, powdered sugar, chopped strawberries, and vanilla until smooth.

Assembly

  • Punch down the dough and roll it into a 12x18-inch rectangle. Spread filling, roll into a log, and slice into 8-10 rolls.
  • Place rolls in a greased baking dish. Cover and let rise for 30-45 minutes. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

Baking

  • Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.

Glazing

  • Mix powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and heavy cream/milk for glaze until smooth.
  • Cool rolls for 5 minutes, drizzle with glaze, and serve warm.

Notes

To enhance your rolls, let the dough rise in a warm place. Use uniform sizes for chopped strawberries, and avoid over-kneading. Experiment with lemon zest for added flavor.
